Well, I certainly can’t complain on how I spent my Tuesday morning this week! I swanned around in the new A La Robe showroom and studio, soaking up the lush ethereal fabrics and luxurious vibe. And there wasn’t a shred of guilt as I oohed and ahhed over endless amazing garments as designer Elizabeth Soljak reminded me ” You don’t have to be getting married to wear a pretty dress”. Word.
Positioned road side at the very top of the Parnell stretch, A La Robe moved to its more accessible spot after 5 years hiding out in Newmarket. The boutique, while achingly lovely, definitely has a very casual, friendly vibe about it without even a whiff of wedding snobbery. Elizabeth moves between the shop floor and the studio, working closely with her two assistants; Ashleigh (also artist in residence) and Olivia. And lets not forget those two canine side kicks Bronte and Frankie the pup.
Attention to detail is quite obviously fore in the A La Robe aesthetic, but to me it’s also the obvious “difference” between their work and what is on offer in much of the local bridal world. It’s soft but there is an edginess that I love which may pay tribute to Elizabeth’s earlier design work at Zambesi. Many of the pieces can be combined and layered to build a final product taylored to the customer. Let’s face it….bodies are not the same. If anyone was wondering….my favourite was the Aphrodite Dress. Wowsers.
– The showroom is open to all between daily however if you have visited it’s a great idea to book in for a styling session and get some undivided attention.
– No appointments are needed on Sundays 11am – 3pm, so stroll on in!
– A La Robe has a swathe of beautiful off the rack garments as well as a full custom service.
– If you are buying for your “big day” bear in mind that they also offer a dye and hem service so you can give your dress a new lease of life post wedding.
And here is a lovely video made recently so you can check out the designs on a person.
