I first posted about Sally Shand and her sweet hand drawn cards in 2009. Since then the Wellington based artist has extended her Ragdoll Illustrations product range to include notepads and wrapping paper too. After hearing about her small light filled studio I grabbed the opportunity to share especially as we were able to enlist her photographer boyfriend; Ryan Evison to take the pics! Enjoy.
WHAT: The studio is situated on the top floor of the Wellington Iko Iko store. It’s a two bedroom town house, which has been converted into office space. My room is a light/heat trap come midday, which is great during the colder months but pretty intense during summer! A cute little deck is located at the entrance around the back of the building, this is where you’ll find most of the shop girls, along with myself fitting in some vitamin D on breaks!
WHERE: We’re right in the middle of Cuba Street. This couldn’t be more perfect for me. I love being able to hear all the hustle and bustle from the foot traffic down below, plus it’s so close to everything you need; good coffee, art suppliers, printers and with Wellington being the convenient size it is, anything else you may want!
DESCRIPTION: I’d been wanting a space for Ragdoll since the very beginning, back in 2008. It’s been amazing having this space and I feel it’s really helping the growth of the the label. Just having a space I can come to and be completely there without any distractions has been amazing. I must admit it took a bit of getting used to after four or so years of having a home based office but once I personalised the space and got into a good routine those feelings disappeared.
