My sister Caroline has been a designing, making, painting, sewing, crafting creative force since day dot! She will always attempt to make what she needs before buying it – researching techniques, deconstructing clothing (or anything for that matter) to learn about construction and then bringing to life her perfect personal result. Deeply inspired by nature she has always leaned toward the imperfect, the raw and the beauty of natural materials.
Now a newlywed, she and Simon have left their mountain top hideaway in Australia to put down some roots in our native Canterbury. With time on her hands while they transitioned to their new life she tapped into her skills again and to my GREAT thrill a little project has emerged!
Under the name “Binker” (my nick name for her when she was little) she has created a site to showcase her creative tinkering and the resulting collection of handmade furniture, lighting and original paintings. Think drift wood wall hooks, eucalyptus stools, gnarled, wild drift wood coat stands with copper and her beautiful standard lamps with hand wrapped cord.
You can explore her current collection online and are welcome to enquire on anything you might see (most has the ability to be shipped) . Those in Christchurch this weekend can meet her and see it all in person at Saturday’s Lost and Found Markets at the CPIT, CPSA, Madras Street !
