How about this place?!
I have been flicking through the new issue of Frankie Spaces – and like the hidden, personality packed home of Jennifer Hillhouse and JC Lehuby, there are another 28 to explore from both sides of the Tasman! Real homes and spaces…you know ones with grit and perhaps too much clutter and memories plastered all over the show!

Jennifer and JC are a super creative couple who source and import French treasures and furniture to sell in their Brisbane store; Vieille Branche. There is a great story to read about the beginnings of their business on their website and it is of no surprise that their little home looks as magical as it does!

The Official New Zealand Dictionary Of Colloquialisms

The Official New Zealand Dictionary Of Colloquialisms’ designed and curated by Lucy Kirkwood // Available in stores and online at The Clever Store : http://thecleverdesignstore.com/

I actually can’t believe it has taken so long for this to come about!

To be fair….the first edition of the “NZ Dictionary” by Lucy Kirkwood was actually designed as part of her final university project based around Kiwi identity. Such was the unique angle and awesome design of this book, Lucy went on to successfully stock it in design stores throughout the country over the last 4 years….thus….it was time for an update!

The NEW edition is written for a “mature audience” and artfully presents the sometimes funny sometimes ridiculous words and phrases popular across our islands.
Really quite a treasure for future generations to enjoy!

You can view and purchase it online here at the Clever Design Store.

Down the long driveway, you’ll see it

"Down the long driveway, you'll see it" : By Mary Gaudin & Matthew Arnold // New Zealand Modernist Homes

Mary Gaudin is a New Zealand photographer mostly based in France – however on a recent trip home, armed with camera and an idea she hit the road to explore some of our country’s residential modernist gems. She explains that while the houses are “a little dusty and slightly worn around the edges” the goal of the profiles was to share them in a sense beyond their architectural features. Mary sort to capture them as they are lived in right now, how they sit in their surroundings and with the help of Matt Arnold, has shared stories of how their owners live in them now.

“Down the Long Driveway, You’ll see it”  is a wonderful, interesting book for the design lover in your life!

Nice note – The title of the book comes from a phrase in an email from Bruce Martin giving directions to his home at Bridge Pā. Filled with a lifetime’s of pottery both from Bruce and Estelle’s work, together with gifts from potter friends, the Martin’s home highlights the particular mix of craftsmanship and design which is reminiscent of all the homes shown in this book.

HEARTCORE

……

HEARTCORE is a terrific project which I’ve been looking forward to sharing with you!
I think they describe the project best so please read on!

“The stories of some of Victoria’s most vulnerable children and young people will be told, in their own words, with the launch of the HEARTCORE book.

In an Australian first, children’s charity Berry Street and international street artist, Kaff-eine, have collaborated to create a unique and compelling body of work for the benefit of disadvantaged young people.

Berry Street runs 3 independent schools for young people who are disengaged from mainstream education. Short stories, raps and poems written by these students have been interpreted by Kaff-eine and painted as a series of street art works on walls across Melbourne’s CBD & the inner-north.

The striking images were shot by Rowena Naylor Photography and a beautiful coffee-table book will be launched on Thursday, September 25, featuring the photos alongside the stories that inspired them.

The HEARTCORE book gives audiences a raw, confronting insight into the lives of these young people. The book provides the young people with a genuine opportunity to have their voices heard.

The striking artwork lends a powerful, symbolic imagery to the raw and confronting stories.

All book proceeds will support Berry Street’s work with children and young people. Come to the September launch to get your own copy!”
