Our friends down at Hawkes Bay based online store; MEKKA have been up to some work. Not only adding to their highly curated collection of handmade goods for the foodies out there BUT also getting busy in their own workshop developing an in house collection.
Cue wooden spoons, rolling pins, chopping/serving boards and I have no doubt, many more!
Its pleasure to browse and the high level of craftsmanship involved in every single product simply can’t be missed.

You heard it hear first my friends! This has been an announcement looooong in the planning, designing and making and well….it is SO worth the wait!
My sister from another mister; Alex Fulton has patiently worked alongside clever Hardhat Design to create an online store with as much attitude and atmosphere that she injects into her real world spaces. The AFD Store differs from its bricks’n’mortar sibling (based at The Vines Village in Marlborough) with an innovative approach to offering you regular and select injections of product.
Today’s debut of the very first curated collection gives you a taste of what you can expect in the months to come and the regular updates that Alex and her team plan to present. Each new offering of product will be carefully pulled together, shot and styled by Alex in her studio and made available online. Products remaining in stock from previous collections will move to the “everything” section of the store and be available until sold. The online store is not pushed by “seasonal” ranges – instead a focus on quality, design and art led work!
In a year that has seen a MASSIVE surge of new, design based online stores – The AFD Store is a welcome shot of tequila! Fresh, non generic product bought to you with appropriate lashings of considered colour.
This is the place you shop if you are tiring of monochrome and rigid lines!

Sydney take note!
Arriving on the 4th of November is a pop up with a damn fine difference!
Designed for Good is a special project bringing together a collection of like minded brands creating products that combine great design with social justice. Visitors can browse their curated collection of beautiful designer homewares and accessories that are ethically handmade and support communities of artisans living in some of the most challenging regions of the world. Sounds good right!
Among the many locally based ventures combining forces – you may recognise the beautiful wares of One Another, Shelf/Life, The Dharma Door and Once Was Lost.
And aside from exploring this store with a conscious, I would highly suggest locals look over the schedule of terrific creative workshops! Learn natural fibre basketry, wooden wreath making, natural dyeing and coiled vessel making!
All info here.

Well Wellingtonians and you fine visitors to the capital – here is something very cool for you!
Iconic Khandallah (and epic online!) store; Tea Pea has just launched their debut collection of classes for their brand new “school’!
The idea sprung forth from their founding values of creativity, inspiration and generosity of knowledge. Tea Pea School brings together experts in broad and diverse creative industries to teach in a series of workshops, talks and demonstrations – some of which I bet you didn’t even know you wanted to learn! I mean “How to Draw Cute Animal Faces” might be the saviour of all your future invites and card making and it is taught but one of NZ’s BEST; Flora Waycott!
Explore and keep in touch with their growing list of classes here!
Etsy AU have been getting creatives in their efforts to advocate their down under sellers.
In a cool move they took over a room at The Cullen hotel in Melbourne and let the creative duo of Marsha Golemac and Brooke Holm loose on it. The pair handpicked products from Etsy’s Australian community to demonstrate the potential of furnishing a space from the quality goods on offer and well…..I was impressed!
Botanical designers; Loose Leaf got busy in the courtyard and all in all a total of 40 Etsy sellers were included in the transformation of the space.
What a cool project!

I am really happy to present a little piece of online gold based in Hawkes Bay. I feel quite certain that Mekka is going to arrive and stay in the hearts of you discerning entertainers !
I love the way they introduce themselves so here they are:
“MEKKA is an online store and workshop based out of Hawke’s Bay, NZ. Eating & drinking is taken well serious here and we have no shame in admitting indulgence, properly and often. We’ll bring you the good stuff for your kitchen and table, with products mostly by MEKKA and the freshest local designers.
A good feast is a package deal – damn fine food & drink, great company and the right atmosphere. Grab a botty or 6er, call up some friends and get that table sorted!”
If you are a designer or small independent brand and like the vibe of their launch collection…you should drop them a line!Imagery courtesy of Mekka
