ALAS x Studio Home TEAM.WORK collaboration project : 100% organic cotton pyjamas // Australia / New Zealand - limited edition, available online http://alasthelabel.com // photography by Julia Atkinson of Studio Home http://www.studiohomeonline.com/

I am SO excited to finally be sharing with you the result of my latest TEAM.WORK collaboration project! Good things take time my friends!
It is such a personal thrill to get the opportunity to step beyond the blog and actually brainstorm ideas with the independent brands/designers/artists that I admire so much.
For this new project, Betony Dircks and Kelly Elkin were the design stars that accepted the challenge to help me come good on my dream delivering you guys the BEST PJ’s EVER! For them – its not such a hard task as their sleep and leisurewear brand; ALAS (“all light and shadow”) has somewhat of a cult following. They know what cool, quality and deliciously cosy inside gear is and lucky for me were keen to share.

Sydney based ALAS is an industry leader when it comes to fashion that is both socially and ecologically responsible :

“Our sleepwear is made in India where the cotton is also grown, spun, woven and dyed. All of our garments are constructed with GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified organic cotton, in fair labour, sweatshop-free factories. We visit our producers regularly to maintain strong relationships and trust between all parties. We believe this personal approach is the best way to ensure the integrity of each factory. “
You can explore more about their production and textiles here.

Knowing that I would be presenting you with guilt free garments of top quality (I myself own many pieces of ALAS that are well and truly lasting the distance) it was then down to some trans-tasman brainstorming! The internet was our shared workroom where we skyped and then used a shared Pinterest board to draw inspiration for our shapes, palette and general vibe. Man, that is such a brilliant design tool….
Kelly and Betony then flexed their textile design muscles to translate our ideas into the original print you see below!

ALAS x Studio Home TEAM.WORK collaboration project : 100% organic cotton pyjamas // Australia / New Zealand - limited edition, available online http://alasthelabel.com // photography by Julia Atkinson of Studio Home http://www.studiohomeonline.com/

I was quick to identify the style of the top and bottoms from their existing range – wanting to go for an “inside tracksuit” kind of look and nothing too tight so there would be no need to run for the bra drawer should any wearers get busted clad in their “tracksuit” post acceptable pj wearing hours.
The reverse of the fabric is very soft 100% organic cotton fleece which is pretty lush! The pants have a softly elasticated waistband as well as a drawstring should you need it.

I have been road testing our TEAM.WORK set for the last few weeks. Even giving them a “full day” wear while working (from my home studio…) It’s possible my boyfriend didn’t quite go for my “tracksuit” explanation but it doesn’t count as he knew they were pyjamas first!

Betony, Kelly and I are pleased to offer you this limited edition set available only online at ALAS.

TEAM.WORK: Studio Home x Trestle Union Take Two!

NEW Matte Gold finish pot plant stand. A collaboration between Trestle Union x Studio Home // New Zealand - available online // Shot by and featured on Studio Home - creative brands from the lands down under

I’m SO happy to bring you this follow up to the product that kicked off the TEAM.WORK collaboration project!
Just 18 months ago I met with designers Mike Grobelny and Nikolai Sorenson of Trestle Union and floated the idea of pot plant stands. In true form, they knocked around some ideas, experimented with prototypes and arrived at a design which is distinctly true to both of our brands and has proved to be a favourite for many of you. It has been super satisfying to see the stands popping up in your homes and spaces over the last year and our brains have continued to whir with ideas on developing the them further!

While there are many more still marinating, we are really excited to present our new Matte Gold finish stand. This is the same height as our other medium stands but this time, instead of a shiny finish of clear coat, we wanted to offer something less glossy, more textural and rich for those looking for that patina in their homes.

There is a softness and nod to a vintage vibe with the new colour (my personal favourite) and the finish is designed to wear over time adding to its industrial appeal.

You can purchase the stand online at Trestle Union and online/instore at Tessuti.

Pop down the bottom of the post to find out how to WIN A STAND FOR YOU AND ONE TO GIVE AS A PRESSIE!

TEAM.WORK: STUDIO HOME X RADICAL YES!

Radical Yes! x Studio Home TEAM.WORK Collaboration Project // capsule collection available online exclusively from www.radicalyes.com.au //Shot on location in Christchurch, New Zealand // Photography by Julia Atkinson for Studio Home // Model and illustrator Sally Shand

Welcome to the first TEAM.WORK collaboration of 2015 and in a nod to our ANZAC friendship, our first with an Australian based brand.

Radical Yes! were not only appealing partners with a functional, fun and awesome take on shoes,  I was also super attracted to their modern business mentality. They are an ambitious, exciting but calculated brand who have made their home online and make up their own rules ( two things I am quite into too!).

SO for YOU we knocked heads, threw ideas back and forth across the Tasman sea and arrived at two limited editions styles that we think are just the right amount of classic, quirky and most importantly will slide into everyday busy wardrobes with ease.

Using the classic Radical Yes ‘Abundance’ lace up silhouette as a starting point, we have dressed it up in two new styles.
The first, a classic 70’s vintage vibe with a heavy handle Tobacco Suede upper. This features antique bronze eyelets and super fine cream cotton laces, the Radical – Studio Home detail kicks in with the contrast of a white base, black polkadot canvas lining leaving the feeling modern desert bootie with a graphic twist.

The second pair is a twist on the now classic Radical Yes Polka Dot shoe, with a super cool, French influenced Navy Polka Dot canvas in a painted wash finish. Balanced with high quality Forrest green leather lining and perfectly matched with an emerald lace, this shoe is all about blue and green being perfectly seen.

HOWEVER the real Studio Home – Radical Yes twist lies in the back up lace option!

Both styles are being sold with a clever back up set of black laces, finished with the signature Radical Yes metal clasp detail allowing the wearer to change the look to suit!

As with the ethos of all the TEAM.WORK collaborations, we always pull together more clever, like minded partners for the shoot!
I had a few ideas rattling around in my brain and decided that this time I wanted to do the photography myself (in response to an exciting new partnership with Fujifilm NZ and delish new camera! More to come on this very soon!) and produce imagery with a secondary element for something a little different.
This led me to Christchurch based designer/illustrator Sally Shand of Ragdoll Illustrations – talented AND the perfect model!
We had an awesome day exploring the seaside suburbs of Redcliffs and Sumner to demonstrate the adventuring and light hearted vibe of the capsule collection. After her modelling stint, Sally then did some lighthearted doodling across some of our favourite shots to add a little whimsy.

So there you have it my friends!

The limited edition shoes are available exclusively online from Radical Yes!
Orders this weekend ANZAC weekend have free shipping across New Zealand and Australia – just use the code: FREESHIPPING15 at the checkout.

TEAM.WORK: Studio Home + New Lands

New Lands TEAM.WORK leather tote bag - a collaboration project with Studio Home // available exclusively at angeldivine.co.nz // Photography by Emily Hlavac Green, Models/designers/architectural grads Liz Acland and Libby Morgan // Shot exclusively for studiohomeonline.com

It’s with an enormous amount of pleasure that I present you the final TEAM.WORK collaboration of the year!
This project was an extra special one as I got to work with not only a talented and savvy designer, but a great friend of mine. Natalie Newlands is the owner of cult Queenstown based store; Angel Divine – a super popular destination for design and fashion lovers both locally and on holiday. In 2011 Natalie drew on her extensive experience as a designer to launch her own label; New Lands in a direct reflection of her own aesthetic and exploring her love of fabrics and detail. As part of this sheintroduced her hugely popular leather “bucket bags”…. which immediately got my mind ticking!

Together over the last 9 months, we have met in person a few times at both ends of the country, drawn pictures, sent samples between us, road tested and finally come up with our good looking, daily workhorse – the TEAM.WORK tote!

Available in tan and black, the bags are made of beautiful soft leather which will earn an even better patina with age and use. Our aim was to find a size and scale that meant the bags where easy to wear but had ample room for all that daily “stuff” – be it a laptop, school books, nappies, travel paraphenalia, shopping or whatever else needs transport in your life!
The front exterior panel features a finely stitched circle detail and is embossed with the TEAM.WORK logo. Inside we have a large zipped pocket (crucial we know!!) in gold foiled leather.

We have produced a limited number for our first run which can be found exclusively in store and online at Angel Divine.

As with all the TEAM.WORK collaborations – my mind ticked forward to the shoot and who I would love to work with to present this product to you!

I have had my eye on young and super talented photographer Emily Hlavac Green for some time and knowing she had recently relocated to Auckland from Dunedin, I sought her out! Emily not only has a beautiful, emotional aesthetic she easily took my brief and ideas and made them so much better (which you can see here!)
I also enlisted the help of Libby Morgan and Liz Acland whom I met last year while shadowing this Auckland University project. They are recent architecture graduates, designers, serial collaborators and for me a constant source of inspiration and enthusiasm for the local design scene! Oh yes – they are also total spunks which was handy!

I hope you enjoy the result of this project and hope even more that I might bump into you and your bag in action one day! Oh yes…and you can WIN one below!

TEAM.WORK: Studio Home + KM2 Creative

TEAM.WORK : a Studio Home Collaboration Project // Felt Garland collection with KM2 Creative - available online // Photography by Greta KenyonI am SO pleased to bring you the second collaboration in the TEAM.WORK project! Now that I have this format to explore, I am never without ideas knocking around my head!

In the case of this merry union with sister’s Kate Lett and Kirsty Coles of KM2 Creative, it all began when I had been admiring some of their prints-on-ply online then stumbled across their collection of felt ball garlands. I have and always will be a sucker for purely ornamental items for the home and while I loved the concept and flexibility of the garlands…I was just a tad stuck on the multi coloured range.
THUS the conversation begun and Kate, Kirsty and I came up with this collection of “grown up” colour options of dusky pink, forest green, inky blue, dove grey, creamy white and graphic black.

Our collaborative collection can be purchased directly from the KM2 Creative online store where you can also have a good browse of the rest of their products!

I then packed up a set and headed off to the mid century hideaway of photographer Greta Kenyon and her family. Here we had fun using the garlands in different ways which I hope will give you an idea of their scope!

We’re giving some away!
See how to win below!

TEAM.WORK: Studio Home + Trestle Union

TEAM.WORK: a Studio Home and Trestle Union collaboration // Pot Plant Stands. Designed and made in New Zealand. Available online exclusively at trestleunion.co.nz // Photography by Evie Mackay, plants from The Botanist, Auckland.Mike Grobelny and Nikolai Sorensen of Trestle Union with Lady the cat, me and our family of pot plant stands!

Location: Fuzzy Vibes
……

It’s with huge pleasure that I FINALLY get to share with you the debut project in my new TEAM.WORK collaboration series. The idea behind this was to create an avenue to ramp up Studio Home’s involvement with exciting NZ/AUS creative talent AND have fun working together to produce products specifically created with YOU in mind!

SO! First up!

Many of you will remember young Auckland designers Mike Grobelny and Nikolai Sorensen from the feature I ran on them and their new popular business; Trestle Union. Their plan of supplying well made trestle tables at accessible pricing paid off and despite both working in other design based jobs their business is growing and so are their ideas!

After the first of many lunch meetings we came up with the plan to create a product that was not only new for them but something that I personally have been hunting for FOREVER!
Brainstorming, sketching and prototyping ensued until we got here: our TEAM.WORK Pot Plant Stands which are minimal and subtle while still being something special and unique in their design!

Initially the collection is available exclusively here in the Trestle Union online store (although stockists will follow).
The stands can fit many different sizes of pot as the hexagonal ring at the top will support tapered designs while narrower vessels can balance on the central support which is also handy if you need a drip tray!
Available in three sizes and three powder coated, glossy finishes of white, black and clear to bring out the industrial raw effect of the metal wire. You can purchase these separately or as a handy set of three!
Shipping is free within NZ, a standard $35 (NZD) to Australia and we welcome any international inquiries just click through and drop us an email.

The beauty of collaborating is that the vibe can snowball!
When it came to the production of imagery and sharing this project I then reached out to some more terrific local talent. Photographer Evie Mackay jumped on board to shoot (perfectly!!) the imagery you see here and Eden Hessel of The Botanist came to the party to not only supply the awesome array of pot plants and foliage but also to be a major factor in the styling.
What’s more, earlier in the year I had visited the great space of the young creative visionaries who run the Fuzzy Vibes gallery on K Road and pocketed it away as a super special location for a shoot. Little did I imagine I would be sending an email asking as sweetly as possible if I could use it for my own project! They not only let us run amok for a few hours they supplied the most ridiculously interactive little cat to join in!

So. TEAM.WORK is officially in action! (deep breath!)
