Evie Kemp -designer to watch!

Okay, in the future when you see the name Evie Kemp lit up in designery lights….just remember you heard about her first here at SHC. I am excited! Can’t quite remember how I stumbled across Evie (think it may have been following a comment/analytics link back to her blog) but I sure am stoked that I followed the lead!
Her work is whimsical, edgy and if examined, pretty dark, but this makes such a sharp contrast to the “sweet as pie” print and pattern that is generally regurgitated time and time again.
I will let Evie introduce herself and her work below:
“I’m Evie Kemp, I’m 23 and I live in Auckland.
I’m an aspiring textile designer and illustrator

Atrophy is the fabric collection I designed and made for my exhibition project to complete my Bachelor of Design(Graphic Design) at AUT last year.
I’ve always been obsessed with pattern and print, but I realised that as an area of design – textile design remains fairly tame in it’s choice of subject matter. So, I wanted to experiment with themes of death and violence (some more discreetly than others) and see what sort of outcomes arose.

The fabrics I design are digitally printed interior textiles of large scale designs. However, In 2010, I hope to be able to foray in to hand printing (to include wallpaper), as well as increase the range of designs, palettes, upholstered furniture etc.

I see this as only the beginning ( I hope) of something much bigger.

Currently, I don’t have a shop but I can be contacted for personal orders at me@eviekemp.com and of course I blog over at www.paperscissorscloth.com.”

Got and visit her!!!!
