It’s with great pleasure that I bring you this juicy post of introduction to the beautiful collaboration between go-getting NZ artist Evie Kemp and one of the countries most (secretly) prolific manufacturers of ceramics; Studio Ceramics.
Evie had excitedly mentioned her impending project and suggested we take a visit out to the factory to check it all out! Well, in short…. I had no idea what to expect and I left feeling as though I’d been let in on a well guarded secret! The scope of what they do at Studio Ceramics blew my mind!
While ceramic souvenirs make up a large portion of their long term business, many of you, like me, will be surprised to know that Studio Ceramics makes products on behalf of many top local brands and designers.
Their manufacturing process is totally hands on, starting with their incredibly experienced mold maker (ex. Crown Lynn!) through to their staff involved in casting, finishing, firing, painting and glazing. Some of their team have been with the business for 20 years or more…
After catching glimpses of their massive and varied production I am even more excited that they are exploring the bounds of their in-house brand by joining forces with local talent such as Evie.
Evie’s “Weather Patterns” collection of cups and plates has been designed true to her love of imperfect lines and hand drawn detail. The glossy inkiness of that blue is magic to me and combined with the gilding… (??!!)
Below enjoy not only a look at the collection in full but of the production process I captured on our factory visit.
“Weather Patterns” is available online from eviekemp.com today!
