At the very beginning of the year I was excited to introduce you to an innovative furniture brand focused on shaking up how we can access and purchase locally designed furniture online!
Well! NOMI are just ticking off their 1st birthday with not only a collaboration with one of Australia’s most exciting young furniture designers but also by offering one of you the chance to WIN OVER $1000 WORTH OF FURNITURE!
Continuing their focus of working with designers to produce design led, customisable product – the NOMI team joined forces with award winning Henry Wilson and the result has been the snappy Chevron Shelves. Their site is somewhat revolutionary in its ability to allow you to not only customise the size and width of your unit but also individual panels from a selection of colourways! Its fun!
We then had a chat with one of the NOMI directors; Kiwi born, Australian based Henry Gresson about their collaboration and some realities of their first year of business.

WHAT LED THE NOMI TEAM TO HENRY WILSON? HAD YOU ALREADY IDENTIFIED THAT YOU WANTED TO COLLABORATE?
Henry is one of Australia’s most talented designers and his work speaks for itself. Our vision is to be an outlet for talented designers to bring their products to market, and Henry and his Chevron Shelves meets this vision head on.
NOMI IS CELEBRATING ITS 1ST BIRTHDAY! EXCITING STUFF ESPECIALLY TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE SUCCESS OF THE BRAND AND “CUSTOMISABLE” CONCEPT. CAN YOU SHARE A FEW CHALLENGES YOU FACED IN THIS FIRST YEAR THAT PERHAPS CAUGHT YOU BY SURPRISE? AND WHAT HAVE BEEN YOUR MOST SATISFYING SUCCESSES?
We knew starting a business was going to be a challenge and had spent 2 years preparing for the launch of NOMI. Pushing the button on the business was an exciting yet daunting process and it was really like pushing the button on an enormous amount of problems that would need to be solved. 12 months in we feel like we’ve solved the majority but would have to say that logistics and delivery had been one of the biggest hurdle. Our wonderful customer service team has played a vital a vital role in helping us meet this challenge.
The most satisfying success is seeing the vision come to life and the response that it’s had from the public. We’re all creative people and NOMI is really a creative experiment to bring innovation to the furniture market. It did start as just an idea and to see this ‘idea’ become a reality and to be delivering designer furniture around the country on a daily basis is very satisfying.
THIS TIME NEXT YEAR, WHAT ARE SOME PROJECTS/IDEAS THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE TICKING OFF?
As mentioned we see NOMI as an outlet for gifted designers to get their products to market. We’d like to be realising that vision by getting more products into more markets and in turn, in front of more people. We’ve got some really exciting product and technology launches planed for the next 12 months that we look forward to keeping you and your readers up to speed on!The sexy NOMI Dove Coffee Table!
