Yesterday I was lucky to sneak into the Allpress Gallery to get a preview of an exciting new project by Christchurch initiative; Rekindle. Having championed the re-use of the massive amount of material resulting from the demolition of buildings from earthquake damage, Rekindle has emerged not only as an exciting and engaged social enterprise but fly the flag for NZ design and innovation in general.

SO – in association with Auckland Council’s Waste Minimisation and Innovation fund they decided to pop up to Auckland and have challenged a group of local designers/makers to convert waste materials into objects and products.
The outcome is super impressive! Sometimes the “recycling” of products can leave us with slightly kitchy, rough and ready results….not here my friends! Quality design, creative thinking and covetable products!

I can only stress to all of you in the area with an interest in design to make some time to check out the selection which can be viewed from the 15th to the 24th!
