Smiles all round!

Not quite sure how to explain the crazy disbelief and excitement I have right now!

While on my normal morning blog browse (via iPhone in bed!) I popped over for a visit to Gala Darling and discovered that she was banding together with two other blog super powers to create The Blogcademy. My ears started to ring as I read through the course description explaining this was a step up from simply entry level blog info covering off how to get other writing opportunities, develop relationships with brands and deliver a better all round experience to grow your audience. This might all sound a little dry to you friends, but with all the hours that I have plugged into Studio Home over the last 4.5 years I couldn’t think of anything better then to take it to a place where I could actually get PAID to feed this crazy addiction! But big problem in all this being that the course was in New York, USA. And I am in Wanaka, bottom of the world, New Zealand. There’s a large body of water between us. I was brushing it off as an idea for next year when I spotted a mention of a single scholarship spot! This would cover the $600 US course fee which is a solid $730 NZ. To be in the running I had to ” make a video explaining why I should be in the first graduating class of Blogcademy”.  Well, my Dad’s saying of ” you’ve got to be in to win” struck me and also the fact that I lived in a small town heavy with very talented film makers!

With promises of burgers and beer I managed to enlist John Jo Ritson of Ride Class Productions who I had worked closely with at Treble Cone producing weekly snow updates. I had watched John Jo develop his work over the last couple of years to a beautiful and creative point and felt sure that he could help me be in the running. Lucky for me he LOVED burgers and beer and over a couple of afternoons we were able to come up with the result above. I emailed the link through to Gala, Kat and Nubby the day before the deadline and 48 hours later I dropped my laptop (really) as I read this email:

Hey Julia
Pack your bags because you’re coming to NYC with us!!
We loved your video so much and Gala is CRAZY excited to have another Kiwi coming. We can’t wait to meet you! We’ll be announcing you as our winner & sharing your video on The Blogcademy blog on Tuesday.

As you can imagine this all pretty awesome and I have Ride Class Productions to thank in total!! Next task is raising the air fare ech!

Have heaps of accommodation that I can reccomend Ju although it is a little bit mad with the ODD whitebaiter or 2 around! but it would be no worries to organise! you never know it could be when we have a arts on tour concert in Donovans store! that is a real treat :) take care and if we can make it happen awesome:) if not… I’m sure you will need a westcoast escape from the big smoke in the not too distant future!
