The Birthday Party

My first take on these images from Australian photographic dynamo, Vee Speers was captivation. I loved the light and quality of the images, the softness of the colours, those little stern faces and most definitely the slightly edgy and dark vibe that they convey. ¬†However, I know that they are not everyones cup of tea…the dead animals, mutilated dolls, and slightly “bad dreamesque” type subject matter. Learn more about the Vee’s angle here at Just another Agency blog.

I am VERY interested to know what you think? Creative beautiful art? or too dark and inappropriate for your liking when kids are involved?

These are beautiful. They remind me of Alice in Wonderland – although a very twisted version. They have a lovely painterly quality to them which gives an innocent edge – this works well with the use of the children.

I like them. I am curious about the kids though, how do they like it? Esp the one holding a dead rabbit, or the one who is holding all those dolls topless, its kinda “sexy” and she is so young! Really sparks questions – which I think good art is supposed to do.

Its wonderful, but scares me. Children are beautiful, and this is just… dark

They’re amazing. Just like weird, twisted fairytales, and the children are so expresive. Perfect!

Photography is always capturing something. This seems an intriguing series of disparities, of chIldren and what they might become. I could be talked into much… To use the words ‘too dark’ suggests a limit on art which ought not exist.. Art is an avenue of expression which explores otherwise untenable subjects, so–cheers! Lovely.

This is one of the best I have seen lately in kids photography. I definately consider it art photography and I really love the concept and the lighting. It is an absolutely fabulous serie!
