The Blogcademy NYC

Apologies if this re cap seems a little overdue, but it is still so relevant to me as I revisit my notes made, plug through my new inspiring list of improvements and plans and revive some of the toxic enthusiasm that spread through our class over the two days of Blogcademy NYC. Those spunky head mistresses are rounding off their plans for their next course to be held in London and I can only hope that their bring their blogging roadshow to the Southern Hemi sometime soon.

The-Blogcademy-The course was a jam packed two days with 30 women with ranging internet experience but all frothing with excitement and open minds. There was definitely some wide eyes on the first day as we finally sat in front of the three “headmistresses” who so many of us have followed online for years. Gala – tinier in person than I imagined, was an incredible, intelligent speaker. Kat – attitude packed and extremely savvy when it came to the cultivation of her blog/brand. Shauna – miniature, quietly spoken and massively knowledgeable particularly in the world of brand development. By lunchtime on the first day I was already thinking “Man, these girls are SMART!”. So smart when you consider that the blogging frontier is so new with few rules and no limit to the success available to those that can nut it out on their own.

The first day I was left feeling super reassured. The headmistresses went over much of the basics needed to establish your spot on the internet and I was able to mentally tick yes to it all. Phew. The second day was the real juice. Gala spoke about the need to always push forward, look for your edge, diversify, engage with your readers, collaborate…my list is a long but inspiring one. Kat and Nubby presented an awesome section on branding which rung a lot of bells and we had a short but info packed session with UK photographer Lisa Devlin.

So this might all sound a tad commercial to you, but for me I was able to glean ideas on how to not only develop my passion but also, god forbid, have an opportunity to make it my career.

Something I hope you will be happy to witness!

  1. Thanks for posting this! I cant afford the Blogcademy due to being unemployed, but I am hoping to get in on the scholarship, this post has motivated me to get moving on my entry, especially after feeling kind of intimidated by the entries already made!

    I love your photos!

Oh stoked that you enjoyed it. The first scholarship called for video entries, so I recruited a clever film making friend to help me. You can’t be an expert at everything so reach out to your creative network and see who can help you present yourself the best! Good Luck!
