A couple of Sundays ago I was lucky to be invited to a Kinfolk Workshop run by photographer Greta Kenyon and stylist Shaye Woolford of On My Hand. These creative women hold a licence to run NZ workshops from the cult journals worldwide events schedule. The one that I took part in was held at the George Fraser Gallery in Auckland with the appealing title of : The Honey Harvest. Aside from the beauuuutiful styling, food, venue and overall presentation they communicated a massive amount of information (most of which was totally new to me!) about the humble honey bee, the serious battle for survival that it faces and what as an individual we can do to help.
We got to taste all sorts of amazing locally produced honeys and then create our own “infusions” using various choices of flowers, herbs, spices and more! It was a messy but very wholesome experience. We were also treated to a traditional tea ceremony with the gallery curator as a nod to the tea based exhibition that we were sharing the space with.
You can check out the schedule of topics that Kinfolk throw out to the world from their USA base here and if one grabs your attention then drop an email to Greta (firstname.lastname@example.org) to see if they will be hosting it. I really couldn’t reccommend the experience enough and am looking forward to their next offering!!
Also take a look at Shaye’s run down of the afternoon which goes into greater detail and has some info on the next event coming up in September!
