“The Order of Things” by Billie Justice Thomson

'The Order of Things' by Billie Justice Thomson - Modern Times 24 Sept - 8 Oct Most weeks have me entertaining thoughts of last minute dashes to Melbourne, but this week I was given an even better excuse for bolting than usual!
Modern Times have continued with thir epic curation of artists in their space this year with the opening of the show “The Order of Things” by young local talent; Billie Justice Thompson. If you are in the area before the 8th of October definitely swing by! If (like me), you’re not, then feel welcome to explore more of the body of work here or even contact the Modern Times team of a catalogue.

“Billie gleans endless inspiration from the everyday and the unique lens with which she views her world. “My paintings pay homage to the kitschy delights of eating, drinking and the bizarre day to day miracles of existence,” she says.

Her subjects, from the everyday (a piece of toast) to the super-fancy (a bottle of champagne) are elevated to equal status. They are iconic motifs to be revered, as they float, isolated on blank backgrounds. Billie paints her suspended subjects on the reverse side of clear Perspex, creating a flat and highly saturated surface quintessential to her style.”
